Carey MacArthur, a documentary photographer based in Ridgewood, Queens, brings a blend of formal photographic training and an intrinsic interest in storytelling through photography and a love for classical, painterly compositions. Her pictures speak not only to the details of the event, but to the sentiment woven throughout the day. She composes minimally orchestrated images that articulate the occasion with unobtrusive simplicity, while capturing the gravity of the moments and the larger meanings they represent. She feels the best pictures are archived through making a genuine connection with her subjects and by being fully engaged in the magnitude of the day.
Carey started photographing weddings over ten years ago, shortly after finishing her degree in photography at Drexel University in Philadelphia. She has worked in both the fine art and commercial photography sectors, but found her home and her passion in wedding photography. Frequently traveling for weddings, her work has taken her up and down the East Coast - spanning from Burlington, Vermont to Baltimore, Maryland, and as far as Mendocino, California and Sheffield, England. Her work has been featured on A Practical Wedding, Elizabeth Anne Designs and Once Wed.
